Carrying Summer’s Warmth Forward
Keeping God’s love and rest at the heart of our days beyond July
July has a particular warmth about it—not just in temperature, but in pace. Longer days, lighter evenings, moments of rest, and glimpses of beauty that invite us to breathe more deeply. As the month draws to a close, the question is not how to hold on to summer, but how to carry forward what it has gently taught us about God.
Summer reminds us that God is not only found in urgency and effort, but in stillness and delight. The psalmist writes, “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). Tasting takes time. It requires attention. July has offered us space to notice God’s goodness—in creation, in companionship, and in quieter rhythms of prayer.
Yet Scripture is realistic about what comes next. Ordinary days return. Responsibilities gather again. But God’s presence does not fade with the light. Deuteronomy speaks of words of faith that are to be kept close—spoken at home and on the road, in the morning and at night (Deuteronomy 6:6–7). Faith is carried, not stored away for special seasons.
To carry summer’s warmth forward is to choose small, faithful practices that keep love and rest central: a pause before the day begins, a prayer at the kitchen sink, a moment of gratitude as evening falls. These are not grand gestures, but they shape a life rooted in God’s grace.
Jesus offers an invitation that stretches beyond any season: “Come to me, all you who are weary… and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28–29). Rest is not a luxury reserved for holidays; it is a gift meant to travel with us into busier months.

Find a small object that reminds you of summer—a stone, a shell, a pressed leaf, or even a photo. Place it somewhere you will see it daily. Each time you notice it, pray simply: “Lord, help me carry your love and rest into this day.”

Thank you for the warmth, rest, and reminders of your presence
that this season has given us.
As July ends and new rhythms begin,
help us to carry forward what truly matters.
Root our days in your love,
teach us to pause and to pray,
and keep our hearts open to your peace.
May your presence go with us—
in every ordinary moment and every new beginning.
