You Will Be Satisfied
If I were to say, “I can’t get no satisfaction…” many of us would be transported straight back to the mid-1960s and the unmistakable sound of the Rolling Stones. Yet that restless cry has not faded with time. Decades later, it still echoes through our culture — in the endless pursuit of success, comfort, recognition, and more.
Satisfaction is usually understood as a sense of contentment or fulfilment that comes from having our needs met or desires achieved. It can be fleeting — the pleasure of a purchase, the glow of an accomplishment — or longer lasting, rooted in stable relationships and meaningful work. And yet, for many, satisfaction remains just out of reach.
Scripture points us in a different direction. Proverbs 19:23 says, “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.” This reverence is not anxiety or dread, but a deep trust and awe that places God at the centre of life. From that posture comes rest — the ability to lie down without constant striving, secure in God’s care.
Jesus deepens this promise when he says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (Matthew 5:6). True satisfaction, he teaches, is not found in getting everything we want, but in desiring what God desires. It grows from relationship, not accumulation; from purpose, not possession.
Illustration:
Imagine drinking salt water when you are thirsty. For a moment it seems to help, but it only leaves you more dehydrated than before. Many of the things we chase promise satisfaction, but cannot truly deliver it. Jesus offers living water — nourishment that quenches thirst at its source.
The satisfaction Jesus offers does not depend on perfect circumstances. It is a settled contentment rooted in knowing we are loved, forgiven, and held by God. It frees us from endless craving and anchors us in peace.
Prayer:
Faithful God,
so often I look for satisfaction in places that cannot sustain me.
Turn my hunger toward you
and teach me to desire what leads to life.
Quiet my restless heart with your presence,
and help me find true contentment in knowing and following Jesus.
May I rest satisfied in you alone.
