Learning to Think God’s Thoughts
Scripture: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will." – Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Illustration
Think of a tall oak tree growing in a windy valley. While smaller plants bend and twist to match the wind’s direction, the oak stands firm, its roots deep in the ground. It doesn’t fight the wind unnecessarily, but its strong foundation keeps it from being shaped by every passing gust. In the same way, we are called to root ourselves in God’s truth rather than being shaped by the world’s changing values.
Reflection
Lent invites us to renew our minds and hearts in God’s ways. The world often pushes us to prioritise comfort, success, or popularity above all else – but Paul calls us to something different. Resisting conformity doesn’t mean isolating ourselves; it means letting God transform how we think and act, so we can live out His good and perfect will.
Challenge for the Day
Identify one area where cultural pressures have been pulling you away from your faith values. Take time to reflect on what God’s word says about it, then take one intentional step to align your actions with that truth today – whether it’s choosing kindness over judgment, prioritising rest over busyness, or speaking up for what is right.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for calling us to be transformed by your truth, not conformed to this world. Give us strength to stand firm in our faith when pressures pull us away. Renew our minds each day, so we may know and live out your good, pleasing and perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
