Paul writes to the Galatians… 6:9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
When things are challenging or trying, the temptation is to give up. And when it comes to the good work of the church, there is also the temptation to give up because the fruit - the harvest - is usually not immediate.
In my over 50 years of ministry I have come across at least two kinds of ministers, those who are sowers and those who are reapers. In secular terms this would appear to be almost unfair as the first appear to be skilled sowers, who never-the-less never have the joy gathering a harvest. On the other hand, there are ministers who seem to have benefitted with the years of other faithful sowers and reap the benefit.
Often, it can be tough not to grow weary in doing good, but God does not want us to grow weary in in the work to which he has called us. God wants us to continue to do good and shine His bright light to others. Believers do not need to grow weary in doing good because God makes a promise to all believers that if they stay strong and continue to do good, believers will reap a harvest at the proper time.
Whenever we feel weary and tired of doing good, we need to remember that God is at work alongside us. He can uplift us with His mighty hand. When we start becoming weary, discouraged, or depressed, remember that whatever we are working at, we are working with the Lord. It is the Lord Christ we are serving.
In the offering of our lives,
as well as the living of our days,
may we not grow weary of doing what is right,
but commit to speaking up for the voiceless,
healing the broken,
feeding the hungry,
and all those mercies
which are such a part of your heart
and hopes for all your children.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
