We continue with the strengthening promise of God as we read in ; “But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Two words are often repeated by folk returning from holiday of being refreshed and renewed. Both of these are powerful words, for we all need to be refreshed and we all need to be renewed.
Mother eagles are caring loving creatures. Somewhere along the line the mother eagle decides it’s time the baby eagles learn to fly. She takes the little eagle out of the next and flies up as high as she can go. At this point, she drops the fledgling, and he falls fast. The fledgling has never flown in his life. The ground is coming up, his heart is ready to burst, and he knows there is no way he is going to survive. But, the mother eagle is watching closely and at the last moment she swoops down and catches the baby eagle. The mother eagle then flies back up and lets go again. She does this until he learns to fly.
The Lord bore the Israelites on eagle’s wings. When they had no water or food, He swooped down and provided it for them. When Moses faced the Red Sea, God swooped down and parted it. And time after time we find the Lord swooping down and helping the Israelites to soar from danger.
Again we turn to Charles Wesley’s hymn that says:-
Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
However, there is another part to this verse that sometime we need to patiently wait upon God before we can rise above that which keeps us in the depths of life, for at times it seems that life is like a tug-of-war game between hurry and wait. But scripture shows us time and time again that learning to wait on God’s timing is always our best option.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the wisdom of not giving us everything we ask for in the time that we ask it. Thank you for teaching us these invaluable lessons that become life long lessons and extend not only to other parts of our lives — but that we can also share with others. Father, teach us how to wait well upon You, knowing that you can see the beginning from the end, and you have good things in store for us.
