Locked Down but Not Out
Reflections on Grace when facing Dark Times.
Psalm 13:1-2; 5-6
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.
Your chosen ones enslaved again
No home, no birthright to reclaim
No promised land, where milk can find
Or honey sweet, nectar refined.
For here in exile, against their will
Your people toil, ground as by mill
Into the dust of earth ‘neath feet
As captives make their plight complete.
Your people yearn for Moses lead
As once from Egypt’s land you freed
And onto desert’s manna brought
Where on their way cloud, fire sought.
Your people too of latter times
Imprisoned, not because of crime
But due to other’s evil ways
That shortened lives, their living days.
That holocaustal pain remains
In broken lives with dark-day’s chains
Where evil from without, within
Says, “lockdown’s evil state can win”.
Lord of never leave, nor forsake
Help all who fear, and life’s breath slake,
To live as conquerors and much more
See you there and there adore
