Remembering God’s Faithfulness
Some days trust feels easier when we look back rather than look forward. The writer of Lamentations stood in the middle of grief, loss, and uncertainty — yet found hope not in what he could see, but in what he remembered.
He deliberately called to mind the faithfulness of God:
- Love that does not run out.
- Compassion that does not fail.
- Mercy that arrives fresh with each sunrise.
Remembering is a spiritual discipline. It steadies the heart, widens perspective, and reminds us that God has been faithful before, and He will be faithful again.
When fear whispers, “You’re on your own,” memory answers, “No — God has helped me before.”
When doubt says, “This is too much,” experience replies, “His mercies carried me through last time.”
Every act of divine faithfulness in your past is fuel for present trust.
To remember is to breathe hope again.
A woman once kept what she called a “Faithfulness Box.”
Throughout the year she wrote down moments — great and small — where she sensed God’s help: an unexpected provision, a timely word from a friend, a door that opened, strength on a hard day, a peace she couldn’t explain.
At the end of each year, she opened the box and read them slowly.
Some entries made her laugh; others brought tears.
But all of them reminded her: God was there. Over and over, God was there.
She later said, “I didn’t realise how much He’d done for me until I started remembering.”
Sometimes we don’t see God’s faithfulness because we forget to look back.
Prayer
Faithful God,
Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning
and that Your compassion does not fail.
Help me remember the ways You have helped me,
guided me, carried me, and provided for me.
When I face uncertainty,
anchor my trust in the history of Your goodness.
You have been faithful,
and I believe You will be faithful again.
Amen.
Practice for Today: Recall One Moment God Helped You Last Year
Pause for a few minutes. Think back over the last year — times of stress, change, blessing, or challenge. Identify one moment where you know God helped you:
- through a person
- through a provision
- through peace
- through strength
- through an unexpected answer
Thank God for that moment today. Remembering fuels trust. Let one memory become today’s anchor.
