Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Have you ever had a change of heart or mind brought about by the influence of another. The sort of influence I’m talking about is not is not a forceful kind but of a gentle, sensitive care-full influence. It is said, “When you influence a child, you influence a life. When you influence a father, you influence a family. When you influence a pastor, you influence a church. When you influence a leader, you influence all who look to him or her for leadership. You have numerous opportunities to influence, and make a major difference in, someone’s life.”
Pastor and author, Chuck Swindoll says of this verses, “it isn’t just a suggestion, an off-the-cuff, casual idea like, “Oh, by the way,…it might be good, while your holding fast to the faith, to toss in a little encouragement.” The whole family of God is responsible to encourage others. This means that I have to consciously realign my thinking and tune into the embryonic love of God in me that I may live as an influencing follower of Christ.
In this verse, the writer to the Hebrews now comes to the practical implication of all that he has been saying. From theology he turns to practical exhortation exhorting and moving towards what WIlliam Barclay calls, “the pastoral instinct”. He does not suggest that any change of mind should be seen as a mere thrill of intellectual satisfaction, but towards a having the transformational mind of Christ encouraging all to enter into the presence of God.
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me the mind of Christ. It is the desire of my heart to be transformed in the way I think. Help me to thirst for your Word every day and change me as I regularly come to you in prayer. I receive your love and grace today. Amen.
