Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
An average person's anxiety is focused on : 40% -- things that will never happen 30% -- things about the past that can't be changed 12% -- things about criticism by others, mostly untrue 10% -- about health, which gets worse with stress 8% -- about real problems that will be faced
In the New Testament the word used for Anxiety in the Greek is merimnaĆ³ meaning over-anxious, distracted, drawn in opposite directions or apart.
J. Arthur Rank, an English executive, decided to do all his worrying on one day each week. He chose Wednesdays. When anything happened that gave him anxiety and annoyed his ulcer, he would write it down and put it in his worry box and forget about it until next Wednesday.
The interesting thing was that on the following Wednesday when he opened his worry box, he found that most of the things that had disturbed him the past six days were already settled. It would have been useless to have worried about them.
God tells us to pray about everything, bringing every concern to Him. As part of our prayer time, He instructs us to be thankful, to have gratitude because He knows how powerful it is to pray with the expectation of God’s goodness and grace. Prayer gives us the opportunity to leave our burdens with God; the God of all creation wants us to lean on Him for help. Prayer helps us learn to rely on and trust in God. When we pray, we build faith and practice knowing that God is willing and able to help us. And Prayer reveals the glory and authority of God when He answers.
God of peace, cause us to rejoice in you always, make us gentle to everyone, keep us from being anxious about anything— help us to ask you for what we need, with thanksgiving; and let your peace guard our hearts and minds in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
