Epiphany Journey

Monday 11th January Matthew 2:8 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.

There is a lovely verse in Job 38:7 that says, “when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” After all the challenges Job had faced he arrives at a fresh understanding as God enlightens him through the mighty works of Creation’ awesome beauty.

Earlier in the Matthew reading we discover that the Magi, having followed the star, automatically thought, if they were to find this new born king it would surely be in Jerusalem, the seat of Herod and they ask, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

But now possibly suspicious by Herod’s replies, they hone their stargazing skills, and arrive at their longed for destination and once more we see the link between a star and the joy of it’s diligent followers.

It’s was Theodore Roosevelt who once said, “Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground.” I wonder how joyful we are with the place to which God leads us?

A Prayer:  God is soaked in our world. God's Spirit lives and breathes in and through all that is. We are lost only when we do not understand that God is already with and in each one of us. Our task is recognition of God's initiative to be at home in us—acceptance of God-With-Us. Then we cannot but be glad. Amen
